Job Description

This position is part of the Advanced Engineering team responsible for developing a portfolio of electric drive axles and mechatronic geared systems for Meritor’s core segments. This position is primarily responsible for executing all technical aspects of Advanced Engineering new product development programs from concept to production launch.

Job Responsibilities:

•Ensure all technical requirements are met within program schedules on new product development programs
•Collaborate with engineering and product strategy teams on e-axle architectures and geared mechatronic system concepts
•Use formal methodologies to complete trade studies of alternative concepts / architectures
•Complete all necessary engineering design verification analyses including static and dynamic stress calculations, fatigue life, thermal studies, and vibration studies using appropriate modeling tools (FEA)
•Provide direction to Designers and other support functions to create solid models and drawings, perform installation studies, perform stack-ups and accuracy checks, and apply appropriate Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to product designs
•Complete Design Failure Mode & Effects Analyses (DMFEA)
•Complete Design for Manufacturing & Design for Assembly studies (DFM / DFA)
•Create and execute Design Validation Plans (DVP)
•Provide plant support as required
•Communicate with customers, partners, and suppliers as required

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of related (axle, transmission, gearing engineering experience) required
• Experience leading the development of a complex mechanical system or sub-system highly preferred
• Good understanding of hybrid and battery electric systems in automotive or commercial vehicles industry preferred
• Proficient in GD&T required
• Proficient in Creo 2.0 /ProE preferred; Windchill 10.1 highly required
• Understanding of FEA project oversite (finite element analysis) required
• Good verbal and written communication skills required
