Job Description


Responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the global Trailer Systems Business Unit product strategy, product management, marketing and field service. Key responsibilities include creation of the global product strategy, leadership and coordination of all product development and launch related functions, management and coaching of the product management, program management and field service staff, leadership of product line profitability, assisting in the development of annual operating plans and long term business strategies, function as liaison to manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, DMO, GP3 Global PMO, launching new products, creation and execution of marketing plans to support all product lines, and leading the field based post-sales customer support activities.

Job Responsibilities:

•Maintain awareness of market trends, product technologies, customer innovations, competitors’ product lines and overall trailer market dynamics. Interpret this information for inclusion in product plans, and for long-term business planning.
•Develop and implement the global product strategy, platform and BU direction utilizing input from customers, sales, engineering and operations. Closely coordinate with the various business functions as required, including engineering, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, product marketing, finance, and CVA aftermarket.
•Gather competitive intelligence and maintain a database of competitors’ product lines, features and benefits, product performance, and information related to operations and financial performance of competitors.
•Create and maintain detailed product line analyses and forward-looking product strategies and product pipelines to support the long-term growth of the business.
•Identify and lead the implementation of innovative new product opportunities that deliver profitable revenue growth to the business.
•Lead the development and implementation of global product commonization and deproliferation.
•Drive the development and implementation of key programs, strategies, tools and training to support overall AOP sales and profitability targets. This requires close interaction and coordination with sales (Trailer OEM and DriveForce).
•Manage and lead a diverse team of professional Product Managers, Program Managers and Field Service Managers.
•Establish strategic relationships with customers, vendors, business partners and JV’s at all levels, primarily at executive levels.
•Maintain strategic relationships with partners in international markets and negotiate distribution and licensing agreements to promote the sale of Meritor trailer products on a global scale.
•Support development of product line expansions to drive the five year strategy.
•Manage the BU’s Field Service activities, including addressing field-related product application and quality issues, customer audits and certifications, conducting OEM customer installation audits, and interfacing with OEM sales, Drive Force and CVA field sales personnel to address technical issues at end-customers.
•Develop annual detailed Marketing Plans and supporting marketing strategies to support the BU’s AOP.
•Coordinate the BU’s face-to-market activities, including advertising, trade shows, product literature and collateral materials, etc.
•Develop and maintain effective succession and development plans for all key areas within the Product Management organization.
•Lead the BU’s cost reduction efforts, closely coordinating with DMO.
•Manage the PCCR process and PCCR Committee for the BU, and establish and maintain all PCCR and GP3 project priorities for the Trailer engineering group.
•Liaison to the Purchasing team to drive sourcing strategies and initiatives that are consistent with the BU’s product and cost reduction strategies.

Job Requirements


•Bachelor’s degree required; prefer marketing, business, or engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
•10 years experience in successful implementation of product strategy and development based initiatives required
•Commercial/sales experience preferred
•Demonstrated management leadership and communication skills.
•Demonstrated financial management skills.
